The Family Medicine Residency Program recruits and educates high-quality
physicians holding M.D. or D.O degrees. There are a total of eighteen
residents in three classes. These talented and diverse self-directed
learners have been recruited to the Yakima community from throughout
the U.S. and internationally. They bring a wide range of experience,
interest and future practice plans; they graduate with the ability
to fill a wide spectrum of practice experiences with an emphasis on
practice in rural and underserved settings.
The program benefits from a setting uniquely appropriate for training
the family physician to practice in rural, culturally and economically
diverse communities. One of the important program attributes is an
emphasis on maintaining the breadth and flexibility needed to develop
the competencies required of family doctors in a variety of settings.
Upon completion of the program, physicians are eligible for certification
by the American Board of Family Medicine.
The quality of our program is high, reflected in the number and quality
of applicants and residents, the excellence of the faculty, and the
strong support of our sponsoring hospitals and community attendings.
